This remarkable house, located on a private island in the River Thames, is rural in feel, yet still just on the fringes of London. Set in a meadow with a wide river on one side, and a picturesque creek on the other, the house can only be reached directly by foot (or boat). The steel frame, rigorous form and extensively glazed design by BCDH Architects is clearly reminiscent of the best work of Mies van der Rohe, notably his Farnsworth House. In addition to the main house, which sleeps four, there is an annex building in the garden, with four single beds, perfect for children.
