Fashion expert, award winning TV presenter, author and all round national treasure, Gok Wan has taken the fashion and TV world by storm and has become one of the UK's most sought after entertainers. He made his mark by giving women the confidence to appreciate their bodies, whatever their size and encouraged women whatever their shape and size to strip for the nation!
Since Gok's arrival in the spotlight in 2006, he has presented numerous highly acclaimed, top rated TV shows for Channel 4 including How to Look Good Naked, Gok's Fashion Fix, Miss Naked Beauty and The TV Book Club. He has also written three successful style books, fronted several high profile advertising campaigns and has developed his own range of underwear, beauty products and spectacles.
(How To Look Good Naked is currently showing in over 30 countries worldwide with exposure to an estimated 500 million homes)
Gok has presented numerous live events including, How To Look Good Naked Live, The Women In TV and Film Awards, Glam in the City (Glasgow) and The Pure Beauty Awards. He has also been a guest presenter at, The Brits, The Comedy Awards, The Sunday Night Project, T4 on the Beach and 8 Out Of 10 Cats. Gok also presented live from the red carpet at the first and second premieres of Sex In The City the movies.
Gok has just completed writing his autobiography that is due for publication in October 2010 ("Through Thick and Thin" published by Ebury), as well as featuring in a moving documentary on child obesity 'Too Fat Too Young' for Channel 4.
Gok has also worked with a number of charities including: Kidscape (Ambassador), Children In Need, Comic Relief, Tesco's Race for Life, The Starlight Foundation, Make a Wish and many more.
He has also written fashion columns for First Magazine, Look Magazine and Sky Magazine.
Back Story
Gok initially pursued performing arts and began attending a course at the Charles Keene College of Further Education and then studied at London's prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama. There he found himself drawn to hair and make-up over drama, prompting his entrée into the fashion industry and gaining him early work as a hair and make-up artist on titles such as The Sunday Times Style. Finding himself dissatisfied with beauty alone, Gok decided to pursue his love of clothes as a fashion stylist.
During his time as a Stylist, Gok has dressed a host of celebrities including; French and Saunders, Bryan Ferry, All Saints, Erasure, Damien Lewis and Vanessa Mae, to name but a few and his work has been published internationally in several magazines, which included Tatler, Glamour, Times Style, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, The Face, and People. He has also worked with renowned photographers such as Rankin, Mike Owen, Elise Dumontet, Arthur Elgort, Terry O'Neil, Clive Arrowsmith and Jason Joyce.
In addition to his editorial work, Gok has also worked as an "on-screen" fashion consultant on many television shows including: MTV Shakedown (MTV Europe), GMTV (ITV), LK Today (ITV), Big Brother's Little Brother (Channel 4), Battle of the Sexes (BBC1), The Wright Stuff (Five), Make Me a Grown Up (Channel 4/T4), The Xtra Factor (ITV2) and T4 (Channel 4).
Despite Gok's growing status as one of the UK's most sought-after stylists and fashion 'gurus', he remains far from blasé (though a little mischievous) about his achievements, especially where his celebrity clients are concerned: "I never dreamt as a child that the people I danced around my bedroom singing to and tried to emulate style-wise, I'd one day get to tell what to wear!".
